Civic Engagement Area
At Utah Law-Related Education, our Civic Engagement initiatives equip students with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to think critically, engage thoughtfully, and participate meaningfully in public life.
Through experiential programs, students develop responsible citizenship grounded in constitutional understanding, civil discourse, and real-world application. Our work includes nationally recognized programs such as We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution and Project Citizen, along with immersive experiences like the Civic Discovery Tour.
As a Utah State Board of Education–approved provider, we offer professional development for social studies teachers across the state, including USBE licensure credit, and partner with schools, universities, and civic organizations to expand access to high-quality civic learning—preparing the next generation for informed and responsible participation in public life.
Our 2026 We the People State Champions
Each year, Utah’s We the People state competition highlights the power of civic education in action—bringing students beyond the classroom and into meaningful engagement with the Constitution.
In 2026, Fort Herriman Middle School earned first place in the junior high division, demonstrating exceptional preparation, teamwork, and constitutional understanding.
At the high school level, Green Canyon High School was named state champion, delivering a compelling and sophisticated performance that exemplified the highest standards of civic learning.
These students—and the educators who support them—represent what is possible when young people are given the opportunity to think critically, speak thoughtfully, and engage deeply with the principles of American democracy.
